The remit
Working as a consultant software engineer for AND Digital, placed across a portfolio of client accounts.
The work
Each placement starts the same way: no context on the client's codebase or team, and a short window to get up to speed on how that team works, sometimes picking up a new technology on the way in rather than after.
The outcome
Promoted from junior to mid-level engineer, confirmed by front-end technical assessments testing ability and reasoning rather than time served. In practice, the change was going from client engagements paired with someone more senior to being trusted to run one alone, to the same standard AND expects of any consultant on site.
